- Accumulation of AGE Proteins: Each cell contains a substance called cytoplasm that surrounds the nucleus. The cytoplasm in a healthy cell is very fluid. But as you age, proteins form within the cytoplasm that turn it into a thick sludge. (This is especially true if you have high blood glucose.) The thick sludge prevents the cell from performing effectively.
These four mechanisms combine to cause cell death, which leads to organ dysfunction, disease, and ultimately death.
What is the Active Ingredient? There are two: Resveratrol combined with a polyphenol blend (make with a special grape – the only grape with an extra chromosome.
You may already know about resveratrol. It's the antioxidant that got everyone drinking red wine to improve heart health and combat other effects of aging. Studies have shown how that Resveratrol, one of the main ingredients, in our product activates an enzyme called Sirtuin 2 (or SIR2). SIR2 is believed to extend cell life by ‘coercing’ cells to repair themselves (i.e., repair their DNA while increasing the production of protective antioxidants) as opposed to dying. For example, in 2006, Italian scientist, using a maximal does of resveratrol, were able to extend the lifespan of a short-lived fish (Nothobranchius furzeri) by 56%, compared to a control group – the fish also showed significantly higher general swimming activity and better learning to avoid an unpleasant stimulus.
Resveratrol is found in the skin of red grapes and is a constituent of red wine, but there is insufficient amounts in wine to obtain its healthy benefits. You would literally need to drink 1,000 glasses to reap the benefit of this phytoalexin. Moreover, oral bioavailability of resveratrol is poor, because it is rapidly metabolized in intestines and liver into conjugated forms: glucuronate and sulfonate.
